Suncat

Suncat is a Latin jazz chart that has been performed for many years in both the jazz and marching idioms.  This arrangement for standard jazz band is very accessible to both middle school jazz musicians as well as new high school jazz programs.

Suncat, intended to be more accessible to younger players, includes a bass ostinato line that are typical in jazz charts with a latin and driving element. Syncopated figures are carefully notated in the rhythm parts to ensure authenticity and to support the horn lines.  The memorable melody and sturdy harmonies are supported by the active rhythm section. This showstopper will make an effective highlight for a trumpet soloist, which is cued in multiple parts, as it powers its way to a dynamic finish.  This engaging chart will be a great addition to any concert or festival program.  Sure to be both your students’ and audience’s favorite chart.
